Re-roof Your House
The perfect roof for your home is more than just good looks and affordability. Environmental factors, materials, roof design, durability, and maintenance requirements all need to be considered. Getting all the elements right the first time could save you thousands down the line. If you want the very best outcome, for the best price, you need our team of renovation specialists on your side. We pride ourselves on delivering the very best results for our customers – using either licensed building practitioners, master builders or certified builders is a priority for us.
Licensed Builders
At Refresh, we take care of all the Building Consents and mandatory requirements that are needed in order to proceed with any roofing project. As an example for all roofing jobs, a scaffold or edge protection is mandatory. This can add a significant cost to the project so we make sure this cost is factored in upfront. Virtually all roofing-work now requires licensed professionals to carry out the installation. If you are thinking about changing a roofline or an existing roofing product on your home, Refresh will also apply for a building consent on your behalf.
Hip Roofs
The main difference between hip roofs and gable roofs is that in a hip roof all sides slope downwards to the walls. This is a very common residential roof type and it is generally more stable than gable, which is why it's a better option in high wind areas. Proper construction and maintenance are needed to prevent minor issues from turning into major ones.
Gable Roofs
One of the most popular roof types in many countries is the gable roof. It's style is simple, as it is a pitched roof that slopes inward on two sides while the other two sides have a wall with a traingle at the top. This type of roof can easily shed water and snow. Gable roofs can also provide more ventilation and space inside for attics, lofts or vaulted ceilings. If your house is in a high wind area, however, this might not be the best solution.

Mansard Roofs
An originally french design, a Mansard roof is four-sided with a double slope on each side that meet to form a low-pitched roof. The lower slope is steeper than the upper and the whole roof can create a lot of extra living space. Dormers are a usual choice with this type of roof as it adds even more character and aesthetic appeal. This style is perfect if you're looking to make future additions to your home.
Gambrel Roofs
Also known as barn roofs, Gambrel roofs are very similar to Mansard roofs because they have two different slopes. However, Gambrel only have two sides. Even though it's most popular in barns, farm houses and log cabins, this style can also be found in colonial or Georgian style homes. They are also becoming commonly used for seds and storage buildings.
Flat Roofs
Even though Flat roofs are seen mostly in commercial buildings, they are becoming increasingly popular in residential houses. If you're thinking about water drainage - they do have a slight pitch to allow for water run-off. Some of the benefits of flat roofs include the ability of keeping cooling/heating units out of sight, lower costs, how easy it is to install solar panels, etc.
Skillion Roofs
Think of Skillion roofs as simply angled Flat roofs. Mostly used for home additions, porches or sheds, modern homes are icreasingly using this style of roof for architectural interest. The steep pitch allows for snow and water to run-off easily, which makes them perfect for high rain or snowy areas.
Jerkinhead Roofs
Also known as English hipped roofs or clipped gable, Jerkinhead roofs are a combination between gable and hip roofs. Usually, the peaks of the gabled ends are clipped off with hipped ends. This style is more stable than a regular Gable roof given that the clipping makes it more resistant to wind damage.
Butterfly Roofs
Probably the least common of these roof styles would be the Butterfly roof. It's V shape ensures that the midsection allows rainwater to be collected - which is also why it is essential that butterfly roofs are waterproofed. It is more common for modern, eco-friendly and tropical home designs to make use of this type of roof.
Bonnet Roofs
A Bonnet roof is like a reverse Mansard, where the lower slope has a lower pitch than the upper slope. A Bonnet roof almost looks like a roof on top of a roof where the lower slope hangs over, acting almost as a cover for an open porch - which is great for protection from the sun in the warmer months of the year.
Sawtooth Roofs
As the name suggests, a Sawtooth roof has two or more parallel angled roofs, making it look like the side view of a saw. Modern homes have adopted this style from industrial buildings. Where possible, windows placed in the vertical spaces of the roof allow for more natural light to pass through. This roof style is also a great option if you're looking to create an eco-friendly home, as it is easy to install solar panels in the flat roofs.
Curved Roofs
A very modern and unique roof style is Curved. From slightly curved to an arch shape, these roofs can be used as a feature piece for a home entrance or to cover the entire house. The best material you can use for a curved roof is metal, because it can be shaped into any form and it won't need as much maintenance as with other materials. Ready to get creative with your roofing project? Go through the pros and cons with a renovation specialist today!
Dome Roofs
More common in gazebos than houses, dome roofs are also great as architectural features. Depending on the material used, dome roofs can be very complex and as such will be more expensive. However, there might be ready made solutions that you could look into. Our renovation specialists can take you through all the available options
Combination Roofs
Mix any of the above and you have a Combination roof! A well designed Combination roof will impress, add a wow factor and add value to your home - however, the more complex the design, the more expensive it will be. There are also different things to keep in mind, such as drainage, materials and the general look and feel of the exterior of your home. Refresh will design and build your dream roof - on time and within budget. Enquire now and let's get started!
