Who is eligible for the HomeBuilder grant?
To access the HomeBuilder grant, you must be a person (not a company or trust), who is aged 18 or older, and an Australian citizen. You must also meet one of the two following income caps: a) $125,000 per annum for an individual applicant based on your 2018-2019 tax return or later; or b) $200,000 per annum for a couple based on both 2018-2019 tax returns or later. Additionally, you must enter into a building contract by 14th April 2021 to either: a) build a new home as a principle place of residence, where the property value does not exceed $750,000 ($850,000 required in VIC and $950,000 required in NSW); or b) substantially renovate your existing home as a principle place of residence, where the renovation contract is between $150,000 and $750,000, and where the value of your existing property does not exceed $1.5 million.
What renovations are eligible for the HomeBuilder grant?
To be eligible for the HomeBuilder grant, the value of your renovation project must be between $150,000 and $750,000, and the total value of your existing home and land must not exceed $1.5 million. Your renovations must improve the accessibility, liveability, and safety of the property. This excludes building a tennis court, pool, or shed for the renovation contract. Additionally, renovations must be completed by a licenced or registered builder, such as Refresh Renovations, and your project must begin within six months of signing the contract.

How long is the HomeBuilder grant available for?
HomeBuilder is an uncapped, limited-term grant to help the residential construction industry to recover from the Coronavirus crisis. The grant has been extended and is available to homeowners who sign a contract to build a new home or substantially renovate their existing home until 14th April 2021.
