A creative renovation turned an unused corner into a luxurious, light-filled walk-in wardrobe.
The homeowner had a simple dream: a beautiful walk-in wardrobe of her own. Her house didn’t have enough storage space, and most of her clothes were kept in her daughter’s room. The main bedroom had only a small shared wardrobe, so the client decided it was time for a change.
She contacted the Refresh team to turn the unused side area of the house into a modern, stylish walk-in wardrobe that would feel special and match her taste.
The Refresh team was responsible for designing and constructing the new space. Because the wardrobe was to be built along the property boundary, it required council approval and the consent of the neighbours. The client was very involved in the design choices.
She wanted something luxurious and bright, with custom storage for her clothes and shoes. The team recommended adding a skylight and LED lighting for a touch of elegance, which she loved.
The final design included:
Once plans were approved, the construction began. The team handled everything from demolition to finishing touches, using a range of skilled trades:
One of the most unique features was the automatic door opener, which needed exceptional support and electrical work. When the original model became unavailable, the team found a similar replacement online to keep the project on schedule.
The project was not without its challenges. Because the wardrobe was built along the property boundary, the neighbour had concerns about the work. There are always challenges when working on a neighbour's property line, so communication and privacy were strictly adhered to.
There was also a delay when a new door button had to be ordered, adding 10 days to the schedule. Despite these issues, the team managed to keep the project running smoothly and completed it to a high standard.
As a property buyer’s advocate, she had seen poor artistry before and wanted only quality craftsmanship. She was thrilled with the results and enjoyed being involved in the process. The cabinetmakers’ attention to detail and the clean finish of the space were also appreciated.
The new walk-in wardrobe is bright, beautiful, and full of character. The skylight allows natural light to enter during the day, while the LED lighting creates a soft glow at night. The wallpapered door cleverly conceals the entry, and the “Press for Champagne” button adds a touch of fun and luxury.
The homeowner has finally achieved the wardrobe she always wanted: a space that reflects her style and makes her daily routine a little more special.
The Kew project demonstrates how a small space can be transformed into something extraordinary through careful design and creative thinking.
