Dual Bathroom Makeover in Berwick, Melbourne

Both bathrooms in this roomy family home were dull and dreary, but a refresh has given the homeowners a feeling of hotel luxuriousness at their fingertips.

Twice As Nice

A relaxing shower or bath can be a perfect bookend to a busy day. But, if the ambience of a bathroom is dated, dark and worn, the experience can be somewhat diminished.
This Berwick-based family could take little pleasure from their ensuite and main bathroom. Industrial glass block windows looked clunky in the ensuite of their early 90s suburban home, while tired fixtures, boxy showers, and outdated opulence did nothing to enhance the appearance of either bathroom.
Although the family had lived happily in their outer Melbourne home for many years, they wanted a fresher feel to these important spaces and a modern upgrade that would help with resale in the future.
Renovation Consultant Leigh McDonald was enlisted to guide the transformation which, thanks to the Refresh Process, was completed within a speedy six weeks.

A Tight Timeline

Meeting the clients’ deadline proved to be quite a feat for talented Renovation Consultant Leigh. The family wanted the plans of both bathrooms completed before they headed away on holiday, and needed the whole project wrapped up by Christmas.
Negotiating all the relevant tradespeople without Leigh’s help and networks would have been near impossible, not to mention juggling the delays and potential additional costs of COVID-related supply issues. Bringing Leigh onboard in his capacity as Renovation Consultant meant the project went slightly over the original budget, but it was a worthwhile compromise for these homeowners to ensure their luxurious new bathrooms were ready for the holiday season.

A Fresh Slate

This project was more than just a remodel; it was a total transformation. Both bathrooms were completely gutted and now showcase organic, squoval shapes, earthy wood detailing, and clean white, tiled walls. With the addition of glossy chrome detailing, each bathroom now glistens in timeless luxury and a modern aesthetic.
While there are minor differences between the two bathrooms, the overall look is similar. One is simply a mirror image of the other, with the sink being on the opposite wall in the family bathroom space. This design strategy provides thematic cohesion. The master bathroom also has the added luxury of a freestanding soaker tub, a feature that adds to the boutique hotel-like charm.

A Clever Shower and Bath Design

The homeowners initially wanted a wetroom in just the master bathroom but, after seeing the concept drawings, they decided to add one in the family bathroom too. Showers in each bathroom have been positioned adjacent to the soaker tub without a partition, and the single clear glass shower walls add to the open-plan feel, allowing more light into each room.
In keeping with the hotel-at-home aesthetic, a waterfall showerhead combined with a traditional fitted shower offers the ideal option for both practicality and leisure.

Custom Cabinetry and Sleek Tiling

Although fresh white walls can do the trick for many bathroom refreshes, the homeowners wanted an extra-luxurious finish. To achieve this they opted for floor-to-ceiling tiling in a matte finish, adding elegance alongside stylish practicality.
Sleek white cabinetry was custom-made for both bathrooms, with handle-free drawers and circular mirrors with on-trend LED lighting surrounds ensuring a contemporary aesthetic. Wooden countertops beneath the squoval-shaped vessel sinks add an organic touch.

Final Thoughts

Renovation Consultant Leigh certainly managed to tick the criteria of adding value and appeal to the homeowners’ bathrooms. Saying goodbye to the dated aesthetic and opting for luxurious modern comforts is sure to assist them if they one day decide to sell. In the meantime, they can enjoy the meticulous workmanship and carefully chosen fixtures and features, knowing that their fresh and tasteful choice of palette will stand the test of time.
