Dated Design Needs to Go!

Kelly was looking for a radical renovation to transform her Ferntree Gully home. From moving internal walls and adding a bedroom, to creating a butler’s pantry and gutting bathrooms, she wanted to make big changes so that her home better suited her needs and reflected her modern style. She had been thinking about possible plans for a few years, but now that she was ready to take the leap, she contacted her local Renovation Consultant Leigh McDonald for some expert advice.

As an experienced consultant, Leigh was the ideal choice. He explained to Kelly that as her dedicated consultant he would manage every element of the project, from the initial design and costing phase right through to installation, ensuring her renovation was as stress-free as possible. He would also be her single point of contact, which meant that communication would always be straightforward. Excited to have Leigh on board, Kelly was ready to start planning!

Creating a Concept and Costings

Leigh listened to Kelly’s goals for a design-led renovation. She wanted to create different zones in the home so that all three children would have their own space and bedrooms, and mum and dad would also have a kid-free area to enjoy. To complement this, the kitchen and living spaces would be a functional family hub where they could all come together.

The existing kitchen was a particular sticking point for Kelly. The fridge space was far too small for family needs, and the whole area felt cramped, cluttered, and outdated in its decor. She wanted an open plan feel and loved the idea of incorporating a butler’s pantry.

Leigh’s designer set to work creating a concept that would transform Kelly’s home. Incorporating an outside alcove space would help create the extra bedroom, the kitchen and living areas would be flipped around for better flow and family interaction, and an existing bathroom would become a walk-in pantry. Throughout the house modern whites and dark window finishings would be used for a sleek and stylish look, with contemporary design and fittings giving the bathrooms the luxe treatment.

Kelly was thrilled with the concept, and once she was happy with the plans and costs, the build phase began!

Beginning the Home Renovation Journey in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne

Managing renovations can be stressful for homeowners but not when Refresh takes care of everything for you. Kelly had no worries about finding available tradespeople or managing on-site scheduling; every detail was expertly handled by Leigh, including the council permit process.

Leigh used his network of existing professionals – from demo crew, tilers, carpenters, electricians and glaziers, to bricklayers, water proofers, plumbers, and even termite professionals – to renovate Kelly’s entire home.

Challenges did pop up – remediation of past renovation work was required, the roof extension had quirks, and a new cornice moulding had to be created to match the existing interior – but all of these issues were soon sorted through Leigh.

A Show - Stopping Full House Renovation in Melbourne

Within just a few months Kelly’s existing home became virtually unrecognisable. The closed-in design and dated interior has been replaced with clean, contemporary lines and modern finishes. The cramped kitchen is now a stunning and spacious galley design, with waterfall stone bench tops and a statement backsplash. A scullery offers oodles of storage and makes meal preparation a  breeze.

Walk-in showers, freestanding bath, floor to ceiling herringbone tile, and vessel top vanities have given the bathrooms luxury looks. Throughout the house paint, flooring and glazing have all been refreshed, and a new extension has provided an additional bedroom.
