The desired improvements for this renovation focused on creating a ‘parents area’ for the couple. They needed their own space to become more spacious and enjoyable. A place that would provide increased comfort and escape after a long day.
Ready to get started, the couple met up with Paul Cree, their local Renovation Specialist, who helped them devise a plan from design through to build. In this process, floor plans and 3D sketches were designed and refined a couple of times before establishing the perfect renovation plan for Hass and Jaya’s needs.
This renovation project focused on expanding the house’s exterior and re-constructing the interior of the master bedroom. To note specifically, the big changes included extending the ground floor, constructing a large pergola, and building a walk-in-wardrobe and ensuite.

Preparing for Construction

With a deadline set for completion in February 2020, the renovation team had four months to undertake the renovation and were determined to deliver the final product on time. Even with the appearance of Covid-19, they still managed to continue building during lockdown.
Faced with new working regulations, the builders took on the challenge of constructing while maintaining strict social distancing. This meant separating from each other and keeping a distance from Hass, Jaya, and their family. Despite the universal complications that came, the construction team worked diligently to see that the project was completed and to a high standard.

Exterior Renovation

The original outdoor space already featured a deck and adjoining pergola which connected to both the kitchen and master bedroom. Dated in colour, design, and material, there was a great opportunity to renovate this area and re-build a modern, spacious living environment.
To achieve this vision for the alfresco space, the builders started by stripping out the old fixtures and expanding the flooring. With the extended ground as a new blank canvas, they then installed decking with beautiful merbau timber and surrounding steps for easy access to the garden.
When planning for the new pergola, it was important to create a feeling of lightness rather than shadowing. To achieve this ambition, the pergola’s ceiling was raised in height to maximise the space for light and air to flow through the house. Additionally, double sliding doors were installed along the connecting kitchen wall which really opened up the space and created a wonderful entertaining location for Hass, Jaya, and their family.

Upgrading the Interior

Looking at the interior plans for their renovation, Paul had prepared for the master bedroom to undertake a full make-over. It wasn’t enough to modernise the space with a walk-in-wardrobe and ensuite. There needed to be a full experience of relaxation and complete comfort. This called for attention to the finer details.
For their wardrobe, the renovation team crafted matching his and hers shelving and rails that offered high-functionality - even with two people moving around the space. And for the bathroom, they used high quality materials with subdued tones to establish that desired feeling of tranquility.
Throughout this project, Hass and Jaya opted for a handful of trusted suppliers when bringing their vision to life. These businesses included Mitre 10, Amorini, Beaumonts, Harvey Norman, and Bunnings.
Come the end of choosing from countless options and an eager wait for final completion, the family was thrilled to have their renovated home to themselves. With all the fixtures completed and professionally cleaned, it was time for them to move in and enjoy their new home; which they did the following weekend.
