Aluminium joinery
ARTICLE Ronnie Pocock

The cost to recoat the joinery is a time consumzing process which can take up to four weeks to complete on a house with 18 to 20 single glazed units and up to five or six weeks if the units are double glazed.
They can be brush painted but the finish is less than professional looking, especially if the rubbers and felts are not removed to do the process, and in some cases it actually lessens the value of the home.
My suggestion would be if you can’t afford to recoat all the windows and doors at once perhaps you could consider doing a section at a time, as was considered when looking at replacing the windows and doors.
Having the recoating sprayed professionally will give you an as new look to your joinery, along with the assurance the correct product and process that is certified. They also replace the rubbers and felts at no extra cost. I strongly recommend that you consider the end result before doing anything, as there is nothing worse or frustratingly more costly than doing the job twice.
If you do consider replacing the joinery, make sure you take advantage of those that offer an advancement in both aesthetic and performance, there is no sense in getting brand new windows incorporating the same technology as those made in the 90’s.
Replacing the joinery may only cost a small percentage more for the windows but you will have to redo wall linings, cladding and architraves etc, which will push the cost up.
In any case unfortunately unless you do it all at once, your three options are: live with the colour you have, recoat windows a section at a time or replace windows as and when you can afford to.
