When renovation specialist David Dolphin first met with property owner Terri MacLean, he was introduced to the kitchen within her 1980s Queenstown duplex. She wanted to improve the tenanted duplex by modernising the kitchen and improving its layout. Working with Refresh meant that she could entrust every aspect of the project to David and his team.

The kitchen renovation

“We organised and managed the entire project”, tells David. “The client was looking for a cost-effective kitchen renovation. Minor building alterations were proposed, to open up the kitchen and adjoining utility room, and to improve the functionality of the kitchen layout.”
Once a design, timeline and fixed-quote were established, David brought his team together to carry out the project to completion. Over the six-week renovation, David co-ordinated the construction, flooring installation, kitchen installation, plumbing, electrical work, plastering and painting. This also included supervising the repurposing of an old hot water cupboard which was turned into a fridge recess. While many areas of expertise were needed to carry out the design, the Refresh process kept everything on track - Terri was presented with her new kitchen within the set time and budget.
“A Peter Hay kitchen from PlaceMakers with a recessed cooktop and built-in oven gives the new kitchen a more contemporary look, while a Primestone engineered stone benchtop adds a touch of luxury and durability. A metallic blue glass splashback and smart timber laminate flooring in a light oak colour complete the look, setting off the darker tones of the cabinetry”, says David, adding:
It was a very successful transformation of the kitchen; from a dated, dark space to one that’s functional and user-friendly.
Converting the old hot water cupboard into a large recess for a double-door fridge was a very effective use of that space, which also cleared the way for a much-improved pantry solution.

Final thoughts

Following her experience with David and his team, Terri highly recommends Refresh Renovations.
“I was very pleased with my kitchen renovation and would use this company if you want a thorough job and an upfront cost of the renovation. David worked very closely with me, his communication skills were excellent and I knew exactly what I was getting. I was able to easily make any modifications I required and the reno exceeded my expectations. I would definitely use this company again.”
