Second Time Around

When a homeowner entrusts Refresh with a second renovation, it’s testament to the process and quality of work Refresh Consultants and their teams achieve. That was the case for Berhampore homeowner Justine who, having worked with Renovation Consultant Steve Wang on a previous project, had no qualms about him spearheading her next property transformation.
Justine’s daughter was returning home to Wellington with her family after living in Germany, and she wanted to welcome them in style with a complete renovation of the two-bedroom apartment they’d be moving into. Justine didn’t have a set budget, but she did have a strict timeline. The renovation had to be completed before her daughter’s arrival at the end of the year. So Justine presented Steve with her to-do list, and he set to work.

Adjusting the Project Scope

Since Justine knew the Refresh process, she was ready to hand the reins over to Steve. The apartment was in good condition but it was dated so her main goal was to make it feel inviting while increasing the functionality of the compact space. Specifically, Justine wanted to create a new kitchen; update the bathroom, toilet, and laundry; install new flooring throughout; and completely repaint the interior.
The initial quote of $60,000 detailed the cost of each aspect of the project, but Justine wanted to make a few adjustments and additions. Steve worked closely with her to finalise the scope until it delivered on everything Justine wanted to achieve. All up, the final cost of the full apartment renovation came to $98,000 and, with a deadline fast approaching, Steve wasted no time in getting the build phase moving.

A Quick Turnaround

To help manage the construction, Steve brought his project manager Rosie Reid on board, who assisted him by overseeing the day-to-day operations. The last few months of the year are always a busy time for renovations, but Steve has great relationships with his contractors and suppliers. Through efficient coordination he was able to give everyone ample notice to secure the materials required.

The quality finish that Justine was after required a high level of craftsmanship, just the challenge Steve’s expert kitchen joiners, tilers and carpet layers enjoy. His network of professionals turned out great results and, despite the tight schedule, the renovation went off without a hitch to be completed before Christmas.

An Excellent Finish

Functionality of the apartment was important for Justine, which Steve achieved by removing the old L-shaped bench. This enabled the new kitchen layout to incorporate the original carpeted dining corner and run the entire length of the room. Beautiful timber-look flooring and a textured subway-tiled splashback are standout features, showcasing how stylish elements can be incorporated into a usable space.
Navy blue lower cabinets with natural timber uppers are a combination that gives the kitchen a distinctive charm, while the connected open-shelving offers a place to show off special travel mementoes.
Elsewhere in the apartment, the colour palette remains neutral, except for the pop of vibrant green downstairs in the entry. Dove grey walls provide a soft, stylish ambience in the bedrooms, enhanced with slate grey carpeting, while in the bathroom, the finish was achieved with a timber-look vinyl.
The overall design of the two-bedroom abode is clean, modern, and welcoming, exactly the look Justine was aiming for. Yet again, Steve has delivered on a pleasing transformation and ensured a happy client in Justine.
